Install and Energize Two Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Units at Bldg 9, Walter Reed Navy Medical Center, Bethesda, MD
This project was awarded to SDC as a design-build project. SDC designed and installed two new Phillips G8000 Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) Units for patient care rooms 2024, 2056 and the cardiac catheterization center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Removed architectural features (drywall & grid ceilings) as necessary to access chases and cable trays. SDC then installed new conduits, circuits, and wire from a lower level electrical room to computer systems on the patient care floor. SDC installed new pull boxes and remote annunciators. A new concrete housekeeping pad was installed in the electrical room for placement of the UPS units. SDC brought specialized lift equipment to transport the units from the loading dock to the lower level access point. A rail system was built to lower the units down to the basement level. Since this project impacted critical patient care spaces, infection control was always a foremost priority. SDC worked with the NAVFAC engineering technicians to ensure that negative air was maintained throughout the process. This project is relevant to design-build projects, electrical systems installation, plumbing, working inside of an occupied/active medical treatment facility.
